With inflation and the almost constant rise in prices, more and more families are struggling when it comes to grocery shopping. And many are wondering how to continue to eat well without blowing their budget. Worse still, according to a study by the Center for Research on Living Conditions (Credoc) published on May 19, 2023, 16% of French people go without food because they cannot afford it, i.e. one in six people. Among those under 40, one in four people is even affected. To overcome this, more and more French people are turning to hard-discount brands to do their shopping. These enjoy a bad reputation in the eyes of some, who believe that the products offered are of poor quality and are not healthy. However, it’s exactly like in traditional supermarkets: you just have to choose the food you buy! The proof by eight, with the dietician-nutritionist Ysaline Benakli.

8 healthy and cheap products to buy at Lidl

The expert specializes in food rebalancing and, in addition to her consultations, she provides numerous advice to her approximately 400,000 followers on TikTok and Instagram. On May 5, 2023, she decided to take a trip to Lidl to recommend eight products that these subscribers can buy without batting an eyelid. Not only are the prices low, but they are also very healthy.

  1. Chocolate and raspberry granola, One day more: a short list of ingredients, little sugar, lots of fiber and protein, so many arguments that make Ysaline Benakli say that you can buy this product without any problem
  2. Organic fruit muesli, One day more: the expert evokes the same arguments for these cereals
  3. Small fresh cheeses, Envia: at the price of only 1.41 euro, they have a “great value for money”, according to the dietitian-nutritionist. They also contain 9g of protein per 100g serving, as much as in skyr, except that the price is much lower.
  4. Raspberry jam: at 2.22 euros, it contains “65% fruit, 15% more than a classic jam”explains the expert in her video
  5. 100% organic chickpea twists, Les Moulins de Cérès: it takes 1.89 euros for 250 g of product. It’s a bit expensive, but the price is still lower than for equivalents. Since they only contain chickpea flour, they are “rich in protein and fibre” and it’s a good trick to eat legumes
  6. Wholemeal organic rye, spelled and green spelled bread, Maître Jean-Pierre: according to Ysaline Benakli, it is perfect”to help out at breakfast or for a snack” when you run out of fresh bread. It costs $1.89, has a short ingredient list, and is high in fiber and protein.
  7. Apple compote without added sugar, Vergers Gourmands: the expert indicates that this compote, which costs 1.32 euros per 710 g jar, has “a nickel composition”
  8. Fillets of mackerel in white wine and herbs, Nixe: the list of ingredients convinces the specialist, who points out that they provide a good amount of saturated fatty acids and that this “allows you to have a source of protein quickly” without having to cook
