summer is a season when the fruits are very numerous. Strawberries, peaches, cherries or even watermelons delight the taste buds. But among the many products available from June to August, one of the most consumed is undoubtedly the melon. With its orange flesh, sweet and very fragrant when fully ripe, it is available from starter to dessert.

In France, six major varieties are offered on the markets, in particular the famous Charentais melon. However, the fruit unknowingly has assets to help our body feel better. Consuming it can help us stay hydrated during episodes of high heat because it is made up of 90% water. But it can also improve our intestinal transit.

In fact, melon contains what scientists call soluble fibers. These have the particularity of dissolving more easily in water. However, as the fruit contains a large quantity, they are more quickly ingested by the body. In addition, these fibers may have laxative properties.

Eating this fruit, even in small quantities, can therefore improve digestion and treat constipation naturally. With its sweet flavor, it can particularly treat children’s transit problems. In addition to fiber, the fruit is also very rich in vitamin C.

With a portion of approximately 100 to 150g, it is a quarter of the daily vitamin C requirements that are covered.

The melon: an ally to keep the line

If the fruit has orange or dark yellow flesh, it means it is also rich in carotenoids. These pigmented molecules which also give the carrot its color are rich in benefits, especially for the skin. They help to protect it from UV rays. (but good sun protection is essential). But they also limit the effects of aging.

Even if this point is often overlooked, the melon is a fruit containing a lot of potassium and calcium. The combined action of these two elements relieves kidney problems as well as reduce water retention.

Finally, you should know that the melon is low calorie fruit. An average portion would contain between 60 and 100 calories approximately. In fact, it can be perfectly integrated into the summer diet without fear of weight gain.
