Economic crisis, Afghanistan is the unhappiest country in the world

Gallup, an American analytical organization, selected Afghanistan as the most unhappy country in the world (Negative Experience Index) the other day. Gallup found that 74 percent of the nation suffers from mental stress caused by poverty and unemployment. Last month, on August 15, the anniversary of the capture of Afghanistan was celebrated by the Taliban regime as Vijay Diwas (Day of Victory).

After the Taliban seized power, the country is going through a severe financial crisis. All the important online shopping websites in the country are shutting down. Click, the leading e-commerce platform in Afghanistan, stopped working last Saturday. E-commerce platforms are in crisis as people are less likely to buy goods. The World Food Program (WFP) and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) in Afghanistan have warned of food shortages in the country.

Earlier, the Taliban had requested help from countries including India and the United States. According to the World Bank, the per capita income of the Afghan people in the fourth quarter of 20221 is the lowest in the world. The International Labor Organization estimates that the number of jobless people in the country will be around 9 lakh by the middle of this year. The World Bank has said that the Taliban’s coup has wiped out the progress the country has made since 2007.
