Economy, health, energy and politics in the spotlight

Dakar, Apr 29 (APS) – Newspapers received Friday at the Senegalese Press Agency (APS) highlight current topics discussed during the government press conference and politics.

”After 100 days of operation: the TER silences the critics”, a poster on its front page Le Soleil which largely returned to the government press conference hosted by 4 ministers.

During this meeting, notes Le Soleil, Mansour Faye, the Minister of Land Transport took stock of the first 100 days of operation of the Regional Express Train (TER).

”According to him, five million passengers were transported for revenue estimated at three billion CFA”, details Le Soleil.

Speaking of this assessment of the 100 days of the TER, L’As mentions: ”5 million passengers and 3 billion FCFA”.

“From January 18 to April 27, 2022 and more than three weeks of free operation from the inauguration of the Regional Express Train (TER) on December 27, 2021 until January 17, the TER transported more than 5 million passengers, an average of 50,000 passengers per day,” said Minister Mansour Faye in remarks reported by the daily.

Le Quotidien was interested in the energy aspect addressed by the Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Sophie Gladima and headlined: ”’Hydrocarbon supply: stock of measures”.

”The State of Senegal no longer intends to let the private sector manage the hydrocarbon market on its own. Pétrosen TS will be introduced into the capital of Smcady. Pending its realization, the Minister of Petroleum and Energy assured that Senegal has a reserve of hydrocarbons of about 20 days”, writes the newspaper.

Enquête notes that the Minister of Petroleum ”has largely reconsidered the ruptures so feared by the populations in connection with the country’s supply of hydrocarbons”. And, Sophie Gladima “has gone there with her certainties and her nuances”.

She said: ”It’s true that there was a breakup at some point. But it wasn’t a product disruption, it was a supply disruption. Because we had a logistical problem, sometimes due to the carelessness of the populations…”.

For its part, L’Info titles: ”Hydrocarbon supply, TER, Astou Sokhna case: the great government offensive”.

The newspaper Kritik informs that in front of the press, the Minister of Health Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr, ” mentioned the late Astou Sokhna affair without going into the details of the investigation ”.

”The Minister of Health and Social Action who pinpoints those who claim his head, recalls the responsibility of the guardianship in the cold analysis of the technical report commissioned by him”, says the newspaper.

Abdoulaye Diouf Sarr was “in lighting mode” on the Astou Sokhna affair, the training of health personnel and the health platform, underlines Sud Quotidien.

WalfQuotidien tries to decipher the social policy of the President of the Republic against inflation. ”Having so far found infallible means to shoe the prices of current products, against the advice of donors, Macky Sall finds himself back to the wall”, notes the newspaper.

”His social policy is today severely tested by the unleashing of world prices, the surge in maritime freight and the financial difficulties which make more subsidies impossible. Thus, after kerosene, the prices of flour and other products will take the lift,” indicates WalfQuotidien.

In politics, the daily Bës bi le Jour discusses the next elections scheduled for July 31, 2022 and headlines: ”Legislative elections: trickery!”.

”Spikes, retorts, allusions, communication…the different coalitions play a trick game. But all against the background of legislative elections which dictate the facts and gestures, ”explains the publication.

Vox Populi took an interest in the “low blows” of the presidential majority against two opposition coalitions, by poaching their elected representatives in the territorial elections of January 23, 2022.

”Poaching of opposition mayors: Macky continues to pluck Yewwi and Wallu”, says the publication, which reports that ”Mayor Yewwi Askan Wi of Bambèye was received yesterday at the Palace”. According to the newspaper, he joined the Alliance for the Republic (APR).

About these rallies, L’Observateur writes: ”(…) it’s a + political deal + worth billions that the new political partners of power have tied up with Macky Sall for the materialization of their municipal projects and programs in return their support for the legislative elections of July 31, 2022.
