Ecuadorian team del Valle win Recopa Sudamericana

Independiente del Valle won their first Recopa Sudamericana, the equivalent of the European Super Cup in South America, on Tuesday by winning on penalties in the second leg against Brazilian club Flamengo at the Maracana Stadium in Rio.

The Ecuadorians had the last word (5-4 on pens) in this meeting between the winner of the Copa Sudamericana, gleaned by Del Valle last October, and the Copa Libertadores. Flamengo had earlier managed to send the two teams into extra time thanks to a goal from the Uruguayan Giorgian de Arrascaeta in the 96th minute (1-0). Del Valle had won by the same scoreline in the first leg a week earlier.
