Ecuador’s harsh response to AMLO

GUAYAQUIL, Ecuador.— With strong words, Amanda Villavicencio, daughter of Fernando Villavicencio, reacted to the statements of the president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who said that the assassination of the politician, in the early elections of August 2023, affected the candidate of the Citizen Revolution, Luisa González.

“Wash your mouth #LopezObrador before talking about my father. #FernandoVillavicencio was murdered by the gangsters that he always investigated. Some of them asylum in your embassies and in your country. “How little mother do you have to give such mediocre and inhuman statements,” recriminated the eldest daughter of the former presidential candidate, who was murdered by hitmen on August 9, 2023, during the electoral campaign for the first presidential round.

López Obrador spoke about the last elections in Ecuador, during a press conference held the day before yesterday.

Yesterday, Ecuador reacted with disgust and declared the Mexican ambassador in Quito, Raquel Serur Smeke, persona non grata, who must leave the country.

Carondelet described the Mexican president’s expressions as “very unfortunate.”

The Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry, in a chat with the media, specified that the measure adopted “does not mean breaking diplomatic relations” with the North American country.

The decision is based on Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Fernando Villavicencio’s wife, Verónica Sarauz, also rebuked López Obrador and demanded respect for her family and the memory of the former candidate.

“The progressive forces that he defends so much are linked to organized crime and drug trafficking, they are officially suspected of participating as intellectual authors of the horrendous crime, which caused a profound impact on the country’s democracy. On behalf of my family I demand respect for the memory of Fernando and President López Obrador, silence! He has no moral quality to talk about democracies when in his country he maintains links with groups that respond to these same groups that operate in our country,” Sarauz wrote on his X social network account.

After the measure adopted by Ecuador, there is still no official statement from Mexico.— El Universo
