Meta has launched a suite of latest features for its video editing application, Edits, positioning it as a direct competitor to TikTok’s CapCut. The updates, announced by the official Instagram Creators account, focus on enhancing storytelling capabilities and streamlining the content creation process, particularly for Reels.
One key addition, currently available for iOS users, is the “Sound Effects for you” tab. This feature provides personalized audio suggestions tailored to the content being created. For example, if a user is filming a video of someone running to catch a train, Edits might suggest sounds like “Running,” “Wind Blowing,” “Bus Horn,” or “Sneaking.” These audio options are sourced from Meta’s internal library.
Visually, Edits now includes a “Freeze Frame” function, allowing creators to pause specific moments in their videos to emphasize key details or build suspense. This technique, commonly used in television production, enables creators to highlight important visuals and create a more dynamic viewing experience. The feature can also be used to establish a signature style or build dramatic tension within a Reel.
To further aid in content creation, Edits has integrated a voiceover teleprompter. This tool allows creators to input scripts directly into the app, displaying them on the screen as a scrolling text during recording. This feature aims to simplify the voiceover process, reducing the number of takes needed to achieve a polished result and saving both time and effort.
The launch of Edits comes as Meta continues to invest in short-form video content across its platforms, including Instagram, Facebook and Threads. Meta recently published a “Dos and Don’ts” guide for creating high-performing Reels, offering creators insights into best practices for maximizing engagement.
