Edmonton Oilers sign veteran Derek Ryan to two-year contract extension

Center Derek Ryan agreed to a new two-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.

The 36-year-old veteran will earn an annual salary of $900,000. He might have become an unrestricted free agent on 1is next July, he who has just concluded a two-year agreement which has allowed him to receive $ 1.25 million annually.

In 80 games in 2022-23, Ryan has scored 13 times and provided seven assists for 20 points. The Spokane native has been playing in the National League since the 2015-2016 season and previously played for the Carolina Hurricanes and the Calgary Flames.

The athlete who was never drafted into the Bettman circuit played for the University of Alberta and in Europe before getting a chance in the best hockey league in the world at 29 years old.

Since then, Ryan has played 500 games there and has amassed 191 points.
