On February 20, 2023, Églantine Eméyé announced the death of her son Samy. The young man, aged 17, was autistic and multiple disabilities. On the set of the program “BFM Story”, the television host spoke regarding the causes of death. “Continuing the fight is necessary for the other families and for me too, to make sense of it all. My son’s story is tragic and not planned, and I would like to point out that it is not because one is autistic that one dies at 17, that has nothing to do with it. Samy made a very special mess, a stroke in the spinal cord. It is not at all linked to autism, ”clarified Églantine Eméyé.
She also returned to the suffering felt by her son: “It was confirmed to me that in this state of disability, physically in any case, the body wears out, the body tires and it is not easy. I think a part of me clings to this idea that maybe indeed he will never suffer once more “. This mother of two children will not forget the “magnificent moments” spent with her son, “I knew him well enough to know the moments of happiness he might have, that I gave him, that others gave him”.
With her association “Un pas vers la vie”, she supports families of autistic children: “I want to tell them hang on, we will never let you down, there are many associations working, we continue the fight ».
