Egypt exports agricultural products worth $1.5 billion during the first quarter of this year

Egypt – Egypt’s agricultural exports recorded growth during the first quarter of this year, reaching the level of $1.5 billion, an increase of $300 million over the same period last year.

Egyptian Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Al-Quseir, announced that Egyptian agricultural exports exceeded 2.2 million tons and reached $1.5 billion.

Al-Quseir pointed out that despite the regional and global conditions that affect supply chains, as well as despite the Egyptian state stopping the export of some agricultural products to support the local market, Egyptian agricultural exports achieved an increase over the same period of the previous year of $300 million.

The Minister of Agriculture said that this boom in agricultural exports “came after we succeeded in opening 95 markets over the past ten years and exporting more than 400 agricultural commodities to 160 countries.”

Al-Quseir thanked the farmers, exporters, and all supporting agencies and ministries in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry, and the Export Council.

Al-Quseir added that what is being exported is the surplus over the local market’s need for goods and products in which the Egyptian state has a competitive advantage, such as citrus fruits, strawberries, potatoes and other products, and that the export aims to increase the economic return and support the Egyptian farmer and producer, as a result of finding a mechanism to market the surplus of its production to maintain a price balance. Achieving an amount of return that achieves appropriate profitability and ensures sustainability.

Al-Quseir pointed out that exports are considered one of the most important sources of foreign currency, as total exports of fresh and manufactured agricultural production last year amounted to about $9 billion.

The Minister of Agriculture had received a report from Saad Moussa, supervisor of the agricultural quarantine, about the total Egyptian agricultural exports from the beginning of January 2024 until the end of March, which amounted to 2,218,302 tons, worth 1,515,100,266 dollars. The report also indicated that the most important agricultural exports are citrus fruits, potatoes, yams, pomegranates, garlic, strawberries, beans, and guava. And tomatoes.

It should be noted that agricultural exports are currently the second largest source of Egyptian national income in foreign exchange, according to a report by the General Authority for Control of Exports and Imports at the Ministry of Trade and Industry.
