Egyptian billionaire Naguib Sawiris reveals a wrong decision that cost him a huge fortune

Al-Marsad newspaper: The Egyptian billionaire, Naguib Sawiris, revealed that his failure to use the proceeds from the sale of Orange Communications to buy shares in companies that own innovative technological applications such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, led to him missing out on achieving huge wealth that exceeds the wealth of the richest person in the world.

Sawiris added, during his participation in an economic conference in Cairo, last Wednesday: “If I invested the proceeds from the sale of Mobinil in those companies – which own the most famous technological applications – I would now be richer than Elon Musk.”

He stressed that at this time he was feeling upset with technology application companies, because of their sudden and free involvement in the communications sector, and he was supposed to invest with them. He said in Egyptian colloquial language: “At the time, I was angry with the technology application companies because they entered the telecommunications sector by stealing and being ‘bastardly’… but I was supposed to invest with them.”
