THE MINISTRY of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) provided remission and a reduction in special criminal terms for 159,557 prisoners and assisted children during Eid this year.

This policy saves the budget up to IDR 81 billion. This was conveyed by the Chair of the Public Relations Working Group of the Directorate General of Corrections, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Deddy Eduar Eka Saputra.

“By providing special remissions and reducing the special criminal period for Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah, the state saves food costs for prisoners and assisted children amounting to IDR 81,204,495,000,” said Deddy in a written statement received by Media Indonesia, Tuesday (9/4).

Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly said that remissions and reductions in special criminal periods are a concrete manifestation of the state’s attitude as a reward for prisoners and inmates who always do good, improve themselves and become useful members of society again.

“Remission and reduction of the criminal period is an indicator that prisoners and assisted children have been able to comply with the regulations in correctional institutions or detention centers or special children’s development institutions, and have participated in the development program well,” said Yasonna.

He hopes that prisoners and inmates can use this policy as enthusiasm and determination to fill their days with more useful works and creations.

“I congratulate you and remind you to continue to improve yourself, strengthen your faith and piety, and improve your quality. Be a person who obeys the law, has noble character, is virtuous, and is useful for national development,” he said.

Remissions and reductions in criminal terms are given to prisoners and assisted children who meet the requirements based on the provisions of Law Number 22/2022 concerning Corrections and related government regulations. (Z-8)
