According to official sources, at least eight people have been killed as a result of a Russian rocket attack on a residential area in the city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine. Among them are five civilians, says the governor of the region, Pavlo Kyrylenko. The second rocket landed 40 minutes after the first in the Ukrainian-controlled city near the front line. First responders were injured and killed, eyewitnesses to the impact report.

Two rockets hit a residential area, Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko wrote on Telegram on Monday evening. Earlier, the head of the military administration of the Donetsk region, Pavlo Kyrylenko, said that there were also hotels, restaurants and shops in the shelled area. He also published photos showing, among other things, a completely destroyed building. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reported on the Russian attack and announced that the rescue work was ongoing. “We must stop Russian terror,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian secret service SBU announced the arrest of a suspected Russian agent. She is said to have tried to pass on information about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s travel plans and military locations to Russia, the SBU said. The suspect was arrested in the southern Ukrainian port city of Mykolaiv. According to official information, Selenskyj last visited the city on July 27. A photo released by the secret service shows a dark-haired woman in a black and white dress surrounded by two soldiers. All faces in the picture are blurred. The woman is from Ochakiv and worked in an army shop selling goods to Ukrainian soldiers. A court approved her arrest. If convicted, she faces up to 12 years in prison.

The United States announced Tuesday that it would add $200 million in weapons aid to Ukraine. The sum is a first tranche of the $6.2 billion discovered after an overstatement of Ukrainian aid, two government officials told Archyde.com. The pack includes mine clearance equipment, TOW and AT4 anti-tank weapons, rifles and ammunition, Lockheed Martin interceptors for the Patriot system, GMLRS (Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System) missiles and Javelin anti-tank missiles. The funds discovered are the final portion of the $25.5 Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) approved by Congress, officials said. The government in Washington is currently preparing a request for a supplementary budget to further support Ukraine. In May, the Pentagon said it had erroneously overestimated the value of US arms it had shipped because employees used replacement value instead of depreciated value when calculating the value of ammunition, missiles and other equipment.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba asked the US for long-range ATACMS missiles. He expressed this wish in a phone call with his US colleague Antony Blinken, Kuleba said on the Twitter (X) platform. “In our call, Blinken and I discussed further steps to expand global support for the Peace Formula and solutions to expand grain exports,” Kuleba posted. He thanked the US for the support provided and stressed the need to improve Ukraine’s long-range capabilities by deploying ATACMS.
