RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Jan. 03, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Future Minerals Forum (FMF) announced today that its Ministerial Roundtable, to be held on January 9, 2024, ahead of the third edition of the Forum, is expected to break records of participation. Of the total of 80 confirmed to be present so far, more than 45 will send ministers to participate in discussions with interested parties at this unique meeting, in addition to 20 official international organizations, 30 non-governmental organizations and 13 commercial associations.

As the highest-level meeting on minerals held in the world, the Round Table represents a historic turning point for the global mining and metals sector, the contribution of the Super Region stretching from Africa to West and Central Asia, and the leadership role of the Kingdom in this sector and in this region.

The Ministerial Roundtable is a government-led multi-stakeholder initiative created by Saudi Arabia to improve international cooperation in the production of critical minerals involved in transforming the energy sector. The meeting takes place at a time when the minerals sector is facing unprecedented challenges, generated by the growing demand for energy transition minerals and metals, in which all countries are committed to ensuring stable supply chains.

Furthermore, the Ministerial Roundtable emphasizes the importance of collaboration to face this anticipated global challenge.

His Excellency, Deputy Minister of Mining Affairs, Khalid Al-Mudaifer, highlighted that the number of ministers who confirmed their presence at the Round Table reflects the political and economic weight of the Kingdom and the growing importance of minerals in recent years. This level of participation demonstrates that the FMF has consolidated itself as the main global platform responsible for shaping the future of minerals. His Eminence stated: “High-level government representation of countries that produce and consume minerals means that governments around the world have become aware of the importance of minerals and are committed to ensuring reliable supply chains for them. This is particularly relevant for strategic minerals that are essential for energy transformation programs and projects and related sectors.”

The Round Table will include a discussion about the competition that the metals market is facing at an international level and how to create space for countries, in the midst of this competition, to reach a mutual agreement.
