Zell am See loses 4-1 to the champions after a 1-0 lead. Juniors win at home against bottom team Val Gardena 4-2.
After six wins in a row, Zell am See’s strong away streak in the Alps Hockey League was broken on Saturday. The Eisbären had to admit defeat to the reigning champions Jesenice with 1:4. It was only the second defeat for the Pinzgauers this season, the first in regular time. Nevertheless, they are still at the top of the table, even if the lead over Jesenice has shrunk to two points – although the Slovenians have already played one game more.
Zell got off to a better start
In the duel between the two top-placed clubs, the Eisbären were initially lucky when Maximilian Egger was able to clear the disc that was dancing along the Zell goal line at the last moment. They then used their first power play to take the lead through Christian Jennes (13th). Jesenice struck back with the equalizer almost two minutes later. In the second third, the Slovenians took command and rewarded themselves with a double strike. In the final third, Zell pushed for another goal. But while Tobi Dinhopel missed the Pinzgauer’s best chance, Gasper Sersen was ice-cold on the other side and made the final score 4-1.
Juniors conceded a power play double
The Red Bull Juniors celebrated their next home win two days after the derby defeat against Zell. The Young Bulls won 4-2 against bottom team Val Gardena. Salzburg were already 3-0 ahead after goals from Vasily Zelenov, Kalle Myllymaa and Paul Vinzens. Val Gardena used two power plays to shorten the score. Maximilian Wurzer fixed the final score with a shot into the empty goal after 66 seconds.
“We have to improve”
“Today we decided not to give the opponent much space and to take over the game from the start. We only partially succeeded in that today, we have to improve here, then we won’t get into trouble in the end,” says Juniors- Keeper Thomas Pfarrmaier, who expected the juniors’ upward trend in the league. “We have difficulties every year at the beginning because we get a lot of young players. But now you can slowly see that the self-confidence is increasing and the young players are getting used to adult ice hockey.”
