El Paso’s Iconic Star on the Mountain Vandalized and Temporarily Inactive – Updates on Repair Progress

Step.- Thousands of border residents will realize starting tonight that the Star on the Mountain, the symbol of El Paso, is off.

This is because the monumental set of lights was vandalized in the early hours of June 30, and will remain inactive while it is repaired, reported the El Paso Chamber, the business institution in charge of the Star.

“We are currently assessing the damage and have notified the police. We will keep the public informed as to when the Star will be back in operation. We know the importance of the Star for our community and we are working diligently to make it operational once more quickly,” the institution said in a statement.
