Elections in San Luis: what is voted for and who are the main candidates

The next Sunday June 11, San Luis will have its election day to elect governor, lieutenant governor, among other positions. On the same day there will also be elections in Tucumán, Corrientes and Mendoza.

The 418,689 residents of the province of Cuyo qualified to vote will define 162 charges, among which are those of governor and lieutenant governor; 17 municipalities with their respective deliberative councils; 21 deputies and five provincial senators. In this province there will be no STEP and the motto system that was reinstated in 2022 is used instead.

The Law of Mottos implies that each coalition that is presented constitutes a motto, which, at the same time, can have sub-mottos to compete in the same categories and the most voted sub-motto will be the winning list within a political optionbut with the particularity that the votes received by all the other lists are added to that winning list.

Among the candidates is Jorge Fernández, of the motto “Union for San Luis” supported by Alberto Rodriguez Saá and Claudio Poggi, from “Cambia San Luis”, which has con the endorsement of Adolfo Rodriguez Saá.

In addition to the posts for governor, lieutenant governor and municipal post, San Luis renews 5 senators and 21 provincial deputies. But in the national elections of August 13 and October 22, they will have to choose the legislators for the National Congress.

Alberto Rodríguez Saá’s party presented around 150 sublemmas for the governorship and is made up of the Justicialista Party and other Peronist groups. His main candidate is Jorge “Gato” Fernandez and his running mate is national senator Eugenia Catalfamo.

It is the local version of Together for Change and presented a total of 37 sublemmas for the position of the head of the provincial Executive Branch. Adolfo Rodríguez Saá supports Claudio Poggi who was already governor of the province between 2011 and 2015 for the Justicialista Party of the province.
