A survey carried out by Data OLX Autos showed that the Brazilian public is not that interested in autonomous and electric cars. The results of “Consumer Trends — Urban Mobility 2023” were released today and have data from 5,529 people interviewed in 27 Brazilian states between September 7 and 19, 2023.

Starting with autonomous cars, only 28% of respondents say that this type of independence is something good or innovative. Two in ten people say they distrust the technology and that it needs more testing before it is made available in passenger cars.

The survey also asked people what the most important items in a car were and the results were as follows:

Good night visibility: 71% Parking assistant: 68% Car maintenance and health updates: 68% Emergency call in case of an accident: 66% Low CO₂ emission: 60%

The most interesting thing is that the items mentioned were considered more important than technological differences such as 5G, WiFi, virtual rear-view mirrors and a multimedia center with entertainment features. The item considered least important was autonomy with robotic projection.

This preference can be explained by the fact that the majority of Brazilians interviewed consider that these technologies are outside their reality, as many places still do not have infrastructure and the population does not consider themselves prepared for these technological advances.

Hybrid or electric?

Speaking of autonomy, the majority of respondents (34%) are still not interested in electric (EV) or hybrid models. 24% of people say they have no preference or interest in purchasing a car of this type, while only 5% of potential buyers say they are targeting an EV model, 20% prefer hybrid cars.

The preference changes when it comes to CNG (Vehicle Natural Gas). Three in 10 people would consider installing a kit to save money when refueling their car. The biggest interested parties are people who do not own a car (43%), women (42%) and people from classes D and E (44%).

Despite this, BYD still remains the best-selling brand with the Dolphin, the cheapest model on the all-electric car market.
