To democratize access to electric vehicles, the State will set up assistance for long-term rental. For beneficiaries, the rental rate will be limited to 100 euros per month. Here is what we know about the conditions of accessibility to this program.

Making electric vehicles accessible to low-income households was one of Emmanuel Macron’s campaign promises for the 2022 presidential elections. The candidate-president wanted the establishment of a long-term rental system at 100 euros per months to have this type of vehicle. Scheduled for early 2023, the project is slow to be implemented. However, it should see the light of day by the end of the year according to the government.
If there is a delay, it is also because the State wishes to favor French manufacturers and that they offer too few electric models and in particular inexpensive city cars. Dacia’s small Spring, which is the cheapest car, could not benefit from this support because it is produced in China. Moreover, if the measure were put in place today by authorizing brands outside the European Union, Chinese cars would certainly win the day, because of their aggressive price. To force the hand of national manufacturers, the State has therefore undertaken to finance 100,000 vehicles per year for the sum of 50 million euros.
Tax income ceiling still unknown
To reach this price of 100 euros per month, the rent of the electric vehicle is partly covered by the State. To benefit from this aid, you will have to meet a few conditions, but some of them have not yet been enacted by the government. This is particularly the case with the level of income required. It could correspond to that allowing to obtain the ecological bonus of 7,000 euros, or 14,089 euros of tax income. You should also know that the device is not only open to individuals. It also concerns independent professions. It could also be offered to young drivers.
Among the other criteria, there could be the obligation of a three-year commitment with a maximum of 15,000 kilometers per year. It should also be remembered that this aid has been calibrated for small entry-level city cars which cost around 25,000 euros. There is no chance of being able to opt for a Tesla, especially since only French and European brands will be supported.
