The social tariff for electricity will drop in the third quarter, while that for natural gas will increase, said Monday the Electricity and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG).

In July, social tariffs for electricity will thus fall by 15.9% on average compared to the previous quarter. They will then have never been so low for two years. This reduction is comparable to that of commercial tariffs. The single social tariff for electricity from July is 22.238 cents per kilowatt hour, including VAT.

The social tariff for natural gas will increase, for its part, by 9.5% compared to the previous quarter. Without the social tariff, the increase would be 19%. The social tariff is now 4.471 centimes per kilowatt hour, including VAT.

The social tariff is a reduced tariff for certain categories of persons or households. Moreover, from July, half a million people will no longer be able to benefit from it and will find themselves on the commercial market. This is due to the expiry of the extended social tariff, introduced in 2021.
