Electronic Arts splits in two

EA, the company responsible for some of the biggest franchises of sports video games, but also Star Wars video games, or simulations such as The Sims, will split into two distinct branches: EA Sports, and EA Entertainment.

Among the Electronic Arts brands, EA Sports is already prominent, but the rest of the company’s activities are spread over several brands and labels. This should change, according to a public letter from CEO Andrew Wilson.

It would indeed seem that EA intends to reorganize in order to more clearly separate its activities. The company should split into two branches: the already existing EA Sports, and EA Entertainment, which should cover everything else.

It must be said that EA’s clientele is rather divided along well-defined lines, and that those who play sports games are not necessarily the same as those who play the rest of the catalog of the box.

The strategies in terms of marketing and development are also very different, which may justify the separation into two boxes in order to create an environment more suited to the practices of the box.

« This evolution of our business continues to empower our studio leaders with more creative power and financial responsibility to make faster, more informed decisions on development and go-to-market strategies. These actions will accelerate our business, drive growth and create long-term value for our people, players and communities. explains Andrew Wilson in his letter.
