“Eliminate the digital divide in Belgium by 2030”: the ambitious project of Mathieu Michel

With Connectoo, an “ambitious and disruptive” project for the elected official in charge of Digitalization.

Today, almost 50% of the Belgian adult population still has no digital contact with Belgian public services, according to recent figures from Stabel. This means that half of Belgians still use paper and envelopes or go to counters to carry out all kinds of administrative tasks, such as paying their taxes or applying for a certificate.

“More than 40% of the population is vulnerable to digital tools”explains Dimitri Verboomen, director of Libraries Without Borders, summarizing the concept of the digital divide. “If this figure is so important, it is because it does not only include the grandmother who cannot use her smartphone. We are also talking about young people who do not know how to react to a phishing text message. or the job seeker who can’t attach a resume to an email.”
