Lidl-Trek ultimately took control of the chase, reeling in the late attackers before the race hit the finishing straight.
“She did her sprint the way she wanted to, although she may have started just a little too early. Only Elisa Balsamo was able to pass her thanks to a particularly powerful sprint,” Kos noted.
Balsamo played the finale to perfection, riding in Bredewold’s slipstream before launching her acceleration in the final metres. “On the climb, I just kept my eyes on the rear wheel in front of me because it was so tough. And at the finish, I never stopped believing, even though Mischa had already opened up a gap, because I knew the last 50 metres are really, really tough,” Balsamo stated after securing her maiden victory at the race formerly known as the GP de Plouay.
