ELN announced an agreement with the Government for “relief for humanitarian crises”

The Dialogue delegation of the National Liberation Army in Caracas, Venezuela, announced this Sunday a “relief agreement for humanitarian crises” with the national government at the negotiating table.

In a statement, they indicated that this agreement was reached due to the “humanitarian crisis suffered by extensive territories of the country due to the effects of the counterinsurgency war.” For this reason, they assured that they will “join efforts between the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace and the ELN Peace Managers” so that, together with the communities, they find “immediate solutions for humanitarian relief” and “project with them medium and long-term solutions.”

On the other hand, they referred to the situation of the population deprived of liberty in the country’s prisons, about those who said they receive a “degradation” treatment, and that in this regard they are “seeking humanitarian measures.”

Finally, they added that with the national government delegation they agreed on the “functioning of the Roundtable” and its “interrelationship with Colombian society” and the countries that are accompanying the peace process.

This Saturday, the President Gustavo Petro announced that they had reached a first agreement on facilitating the return to their reservations of the Embera communities displaced by violence.

“This must be applied to other populations. In other words, the return should be possible throughout the national territory for any ethnic group of the population, its mixtures, almost all of us are mestizos,” said the president.
