On December 8, Elon Musk launched his own chatbot for paying subscribers of X (formerly Twitter). It was designed in the image of its creator. In other words, the Grok chatbot was developed not to avoid controversial topics and respond in a politically incorrect manner, explains the Washington Post. “Unlike others, Grok is programmed to give vulgar and sarcastic answers when asked, and he promises to ‘answer spicy questions that are rejected by most other AI systems,’” explains the American newspaper. For current affairs questions, Grok draws this information from X’s latest posts.
But everything did not go as planned for Elon Musk, who received complaints from the political right that Grok’s answers were too liberal regarding subjects such as diversity, the rights of transgender people or vaccination. An X user asked the Chatbot if transgender women were real women, to which Grok replied “yes”. A response apparently unsatisfactory for the user who suggests “some adjustments”.
An unforeseen event that Elon Musk deplores. “Unfortunately, the internet (on which Grok is developed) is overrun with ‘woke’ nonsense. Grok will improve. This is only the beta version,” explains the boss of X.
