The month of June 2023 marked a turning point in the war that has pitted Ukraine against Russia for more than a year and a half. It was during this period that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky formalized the launch of an operation counteroffensive against the Russian army.

If he has continued to highlight this counter-offensive over the months, the advances of Ukrainian troops are running out of steam now, recognized Volodymyr Zelensky on September 8, who in passing blamed “the slowness” of Western arms deliveries.

In the midst of the conflict, one personality made headlines for a surprising reason: Elon Muskthe boss of SpaceX and Twitter (which he has since renamed X).

Ukrainian attack stopped

The American billionaire has indeed asserted on having prevented a Ukrainian attack on the Russian fleet from the Black Sea last year, confirming information from his soon-to-be published biography.

“We received an urgent request from the Ukrainian authorities” to activate Internet access in the Black Sea via our Starlink satellite, deployed in Ukraine shortly after the invasion, said Elon Musk on.

It was obvious that their intention was to sink the Russian fleet.

Not being “complicit in a major act of war”

The SpaceX boss goes on to say that he refused to activate Starlink on the grounds that his company would then have been “accomplice of a major act of war”. “Our terms of service clearly prohibit the use of Starlink for offensive military actions, since we are a civilian system,” he tweeted on X.

According to the extract from a biography whose good pages appeared in the American press, Elon Musk did not in fact refuse to activate but ordered to deactivate, after contact with a Russian diplomat, Starlink coverage in the area. This deactivation made fail a marine drone operation already in progress.

Mikhaïlo Podoliak, one of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s main advisors, reacted by estimating that the price paid for this “cocktail of ignorance and big ego” was counted in “killed children”.
