“Embracing My Loved Ones: Marc Tarabella Released from Prison and Reunites in Anthisnes”

Throughout the week, it was anticipated that Marc Tarabella, MEP and mayor of Anthisnes, who was charged in the Qatargate scandal and imprisoned for two months, would be released either late this week or early the next. On Thursday morning, Tarabella left the Marchoise prison and returned to his home in Anthisnois where he will now be placed under electronic surveillance. The Acting Mayor, Michel Evans, greeted the press and noted that he is relieved for Tarabella’s release. Tarabella explained that during his time in incarceration, he was grateful to count on family, friends, and colleagues for support. He expressed his eagerness to reunite with loved ones and return to serving the Anthisnois community, even if that means working remotely at times. Tarabella was detained as part of the Qatargate case, which alleges corruption in European Parliament.

We knew since the beginning of the week that the MEP and mayor of Anthisnes, Marc Tarabella, charged in the Qatargate affair and imprisoned for two months (first in the prison of Saint-Gilles then in that of Marche), was going to be released late this week or early next.

He finally left the Marchoise prison this Thursday morning, to join his home in Anthisnois, where he will then be placed under electronic surveillance. It was around 10:15 a.m. that he was able to pass the door of his house, rue du Centre, under the gaze of the RTBF cameras. Michel Evans, Acting Mayor, came down to meet the press. “I had time to see him and we waved. I can’t wait to see him again. It’s a relief for everyone.” He will then knock on the MEP’s door to greet him. But it will remain closed.

The most enjoyable? “Take the people I love in my arms”

Marc Tarabella will confide a few hours later to L’Avenir. First on his physical and mental state after these two months of incarceration. “It was not easy. It was a trying time for sure. But I was always able to count on my family, my friends and many colleagues in this ordeal. It allowed me to hold on.” What he missed the most were his loved ones,”to be far from mine, from my commune, from Anthisnois but also from no longer being able to work”. His return home is a sign, for him, of reunion. “The nicest thing I’m going to do now is hug the people I love.”

“Give me back to the service of the Commune”

How will he approach this relative freedom? “We will see: teleworking probably… At the local level, we will see what is possible. But returning to the service of the Commune and the Anthisnois seems possible. I will also continue to fight to prove my innocence. I remain of course , as I have said from day one, at the full disposal of investigators should they require any further information, of course.” In any case, Anthisnes and the Anthisnois missed him. “How could it be otherwise…”he concludes.

Marc Tarabella says he is relieved to be able to join his family. “This period was a real ordeal. I would like to thank all the people who have shown their support for me during all these weeks.”

The Belgian MEP was detained on February 11, first in Saint-Gilles prison and then in Marche-en-Famenne prison, as part of Qatargate, an alleged corruption case in parliament. European.

After spending two months in prison, Marc Tarabella has finally been released and allowed to return to his home in Anthisnois, where he will be under electronic surveillance. His release marks a time of reunion with his loved ones and a chance to return to the service of the Commune and the Anthisnois. Tarabella is grateful for the support he has received during his ordeal and remains committed to proving his innocence. We hope that justice will prevail in this alleged corruption case, and that Tarabella can move forward and continue to serve his community with honor and integrity.
