The ephemeris of this Thursday (20) was the 150th anniversary of Santos Dumont, the father of aviation, but it is not exactly an airplane that is in the center of attention in 2023.

The vehicle that has been projected for the past four years and should be in the skies by 2026 it is made by Eve Air Mobility, controlled by Embraer, which is going to take advantage of a factory it already has in the interior of São Paulo and expand it to the production of modern vehicles.

More than 2,800 units have already been ordered, according to Embraer, but Eve and Embraer say that the expansion of the facilities is still subject to final approval by the authorities.

“The location benefits from strategic logistics, offering easy access via highways and proximity to a railway line. Another significant advantage is the location close to Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos and Eve’s engineering and human resources team, which will facilitate the development and sustainability of new production processes, increasing the company’s agility and competitiveness”, says the company in a press release.

The electric vehicle with a range of 100 kilometers that combines characteristics of cars, planes, drones and helicopters, with different propellers, should have a real test flight next year. Areas of origin and destination for trips will also be defined, in addition to the network of urban air mobility wheels.

Eve works in partnership with the American company United Airlines to make the project viable, and has already received an investment of R$ 15 million and the purchase of 400 additional units.

Regarding the move to the factory, the City Hall of Taubaté announced that it expects benefits at the site, “such as the generation of qualified jobs, investments in research and development, in addition to greater visibility in the national and international technological scenario”.
