At around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, a 19-year-old student, who had climbed to the top of the New Century Underground Parking Vent Tower, a fountain-like structure covered in vegetation, fell into the ditch. The emergency services, including firefighters and a Samu team, were alerted, as reported by La Voix du Nord. The victim had injuries, particularly to the legs, but was still conscious.
Due to the difficulties of access to the area, the decision was taken to seek the assistance of specialists from the Groupement d’intervention en milieu perileux (Grimp). The victim was on a platform and had to be rescued using ropes.
According to a witness at the scene, the accident happened when a large group of people had reached the top of the structure. The officers asked them to come back down, but the woman took a step back and fell through a grate.
