Emirates News Agency – Asian stocks rise at the beginning of the week

ABU DHABI, July 4th / WAM / Asian stock indices rose at the end of today’s session, amid calm trading in conjunction with the Independence Day holiday in the United States of America.

The Japanese Nikkei index closed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, up by 0.84%, or 218.2 points, to reach 26153.81 points, while the broader Topix index rose by 1.34%, equivalent to 24.67 points, to close at 1869.71 points.

The “ESI” Composite Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange increased by 17.8 points, or 0.53%, to close at 3,405.43 points, while the Bombay Synx index rose in late trading by 285.74 points, or 0.51%, to reach 53,179.58 points.

Asian stocks witnessed mixed performance last week, while the performance of Asian stock markets varied with the decline of Japanese stocks following the decline of the Japanese Nikkei index to its lowest level in two weeks.

Financial markets around the world are awaiting the launch of the corporate results marathon for the second quarter of this year, in addition to the results of the monetary policy meeting of the US Federal Reserve, expected to be held during the month of July, amid expectations of more interest rate hikes to curb inflation that has reached its highest levels in several decades.
