BEIJING, May 4 / WAM / China unveiled today the construction of an automatic meteorological monitoring station at an altitude of more than 8800 meters, the highest of its kind in the world.
Xinhua News Agency said that Chinese researchers have set up the station on Mount Qomolangma on the border between China and Nepal.
The Tibetan Plateau Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences said today that the station has replaced the 8,430-meter-high station on the southern side of the mountain, which was established by British and American scientists in 2019, to become the highest in the world.
