ABU DHABI, December 1st, WAM/ The UAE ranked first in the world in many diverse vital sectors during the year 2022, led by the food security sector, with the country ranking first in 7 global indicators for this sector, 5 indicators in the education sector, 4 indicators in the health sector, and 4 indicators in the health sector. Indicators in the financial sector, according to the “UAE in Numbers-2022” report issued by the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics.
The report data showed that the first positions of the state included two indices in the energy sector, the index of growth in the import of commercial goods and services in the trade sector, the index of the number of Internet users in the communications, technology and information sector, the indicator of the enabling environment for education in the investment sector, and the indicator of the state’s ability to attract talents in the economy sector. The index of flexibility of residency laws in the tourism and travel sector, the index of the small number of elderly people in the population sector, the index of women in parliament in the gender balance sector, the index of low dependency ratio in the community sector, and the first place in the index of satisfaction with environmental conservation efforts in the environment sector.
The report dealt with the country’s gross domestic product data during the first half of this year compared to the same period last year, as well as the gross domestic product during the years 2021, 2020 and 2019, in addition to non-oil foreign trade during the same period.
The report also indicated that the country’s population grew during 2021 to about 9.557 million people, up from 9.282 million people at the end of 2020.
In the field of gender balance, the report indicated that the Federal National Council was distributed between 50% males and 50% females, while females constituted 32% of the diplomatic corps, 27% in the ministerial formation and 52.5% in the workforce.
The report’s data reviewed the economic sector, gross domestic product, global trade, prices, tourism, travel, communications and technology, noting that the country’s gross domestic product during the first half of 2022 recorded growth at constant prices by 8.5% to reach 817.13 billion dirhams, compared to the same period last year. The country’s gross domestic product grew during the year 2021 by 3.9% to 1.499 trillion dirhams, compared to the output recorded in 2020.
The report pointed to the growth of non-oil GDP during the first half of this year at constant prices by 7.8% to reach 591.3 billion dirhams, while the growth rate of non-oil GDP during the year 2021 reached 5.8% to reach 1.087 trillion dirhams, during the comparison period.
He explained that the wholesale and retail trade sector topped the list of the top five economic activities contributing to the GDP in the first half of 2022 by 12.9%, manufacturing industries by 10.8%, financial and security activities by 8.1%, construction and building by 8%, and real estate activities by 5.5%.
The hotels and restaurants sector topped the list of the top 5 growing economic activities during the first half, recording a rate of 31%. Transportation and storage came in second place in that list, recording a growth rate of 26.8%. Health and social services increased by 20.1%. Real estate, by 8.7%, and wholesale and retail trade, at a rate of 7.2%. .
The “Competitiveness and Statistics” report indicated that the list of the top 5 commodities traded during the first half amounted to 415.1 billion dirhams, distributed between 233 billion dirhams for imports and 182.1 billion dirhams for non-oil exports. The volume of imports increased in the first half of this year to 556.2 billion dirhams, compared to 471.9 billion dirhams in the same period of 2021, and the volume of exports increased to 172.7 billion dirhams, compared to 162.6 billion dirhams, while the volume of re-exports amounted to 266.2 billion dirhams, compared to 213.9 billion dirhams. during the comparison period.
Competitiveness indicators
The report dealt with indicators of competitiveness and the UAE’s ranking globally in the economic sector, as it ranked first in the index of the country’s ability to attract talent according to the prosperity index during 2021, and ranked second in the index of searching for business projects according to the Global Innovation Index 2022, and ranked third in the index of price inflation stability. Consumers, and the eighth place in the world in three indicators: corporate flexibility, investment incentives, and economic flexibility, and the tenth place in the partnership index between the public and private sectors, according to the Global Competitiveness Yearbook 2022 report.
In the financial sector, the UAE ranked first in four indicators: the low tax evasion index (Global Competitiveness Yearbook Report 2022), the low personal income tax collected (%) according to the Global Competitiveness Report 2022, and the low waste index in government spending. In the trade sector, the report stated that the UAE ranked first in the index of growth in the import of commercial goods and services, according to the Competitiveness Report 2022, the third in the index of exports of goods (%), and the fifth in the index of exports of goods per capita, according to the Global Competitiveness Report 2022.
In the communications and information technology sector, the UAE ranked first in the index of the number of Internet users according to the Global Digital Competitiveness Report 2022, the second place in the index of the use of virtual social networks according to the Global Talent Report 2022, and the third place in the index of mobile broadband subscribers according to the Competitiveness Report.
