ABU DHABI, 23rd March, 2022 (WAM) — Abu Dhabi Executive Council Member and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Office, His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed, today launched the History Museum project nature of Abu Dhabi.
The new museum, which will be the largest of its kind in the region, will take visitors on a 13.8 billion year journey through time and space, and provide a thought-provoking perspective on the sustainable future of the earth.
The museum, currently under construction and scheduled for completion by the end of 2025, will be located in the emirate’s Saadiyat cultural district, which is emerging as one of the world’s leading cultural hubs.
One of the highlights of the new museum’s collection will be the famous “Stan”, a remarkable 11.7 meter long, virtually complete Tyrannosaurus rex, which is one of the best preserved and most studied fossils of this emblematic predator of the end of the Cretaceous. Known to scientists around the world, “Stan” has been the subject of years of scientific study that has deepened our knowledge of countless aspects of T. rex. Now that ‘Stan’ has a new home at the Abu Dhabi Museum of Natural History, this 67 million year old dinosaur will be made available for scientific research and will continue to contribute to education and research. in the whole world.
Stan will be joined by an extraordinary specimen of the Murchison meteorite, which crashed in Australia more than 40 years ago and has since revealed new information to scientists about the beginnings of the solar system. Containing a wide array of “stardust”-like organic compounds as well as pre-solar grains that formed over 7 billion years ago – long before the existence of our current solar system – the meteorite offers an ancient insight into the building blocks of life.
The museum’s collection will showcase many important artifacts as part of its curatorial vision, as well as compelling experiences created by a dedicated team in Abu Dhabi, supported by strategic partnerships with world-renowned scholars and natural history experts.
Designed and developed by the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) in partnership with Miral, Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of destinations and experiences, the Abu Dhabi Museum of Natural History will be an institution for scientific research and teaching, as well as an educational resource for learning the evolutionary history of our planet, aiming to ignite a lifelong passion for the natural world in visitors of all ages.
DCT Abu Dhabi President Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak said it has never been more important to raise awareness of the impact we have on the planet.

“The museum will join the various cultural institutions and museums in the Saadiyat Cultural District, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the future Zayed National Museum and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, as part of Abu Dhabi’s strategy to position the emirate as a center of culture, art and creativity.
The Abu Dhabi Natural History Museum will provide employment opportunities in the emirate as well as nationally and regionally through the appointment of curators covering the full range of natural sciences. Furthermore, it aims to attract and develop young talent as part of Abu Dhabi’s drive to accelerate the cultural and creative industries.
The Saadiyat Cultural District is already home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the famous universal museum designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, and Manarat Al Saadiyat, a cultural center that contributes to the dynamism of the region’s art scene by offering world-class exhibitions and events, workshops and creative programs.
The Saadiyat Cultural District will soon include the Zayed National Museum, the UAE National Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, dedicated to global modern and contemporary art, and the Abrahamic Family House, which will combine three religious spaces in one place – a mosque, a synagogue and a church – to inspire and foster acceptance and peaceful coexistence among people of all faiths.
