Emirates News Agency – Mansour Mokhtar: Food security tops the agenda of the “Islamic Development Authority”

Jeddah, October 17 / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Mansour Mokhtar, Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank (Operations), affirmed that providing food security tops the agenda of the Islamic Development Bank.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, he said that the bank recently organized a “Food Security Response Program” worth $10.5 billion, with the aim of mitigating and adapting to the effects of the global food crisis and working to build capacity and resilience and effectively deal with future shocks.

He explained that the program is in line with the Bank’s updated strategy 2022-2023, which will directly contribute to the implementation of the second goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which is the eradication of hunger and the first goal, which is the fight against poverty.

He stated that the program includes two tracks, short-term and long-term, and will mainly support the food supply and will enhance social protection and interventions to improve living standards wherever possible in the countries in which it operates.

He added that the initial objective of the program and the remaining funding of US$7.3 billion – for a period of 3 years – is to implement innovative intervention activities in the medium and long term to address structural weaknesses and causes of food security challenges in Member States.
