Basra, January 5 / WAM / With the launch date of the twenty-fifth edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup approaching, which will be held in the city of Basra from January 6 to January 19, with the participation of 8 teams, the official website of the tournament highlighted a number of stars who contributed to the tournament. Their teams qualified and crowned them with the title, including Fahd Khamis, the national team player, who participated with the national team in 4 editions of the tournament during the period from 1982 to 1990.
Fahd Khamis, during his participation with the UAE national team in the Arab Gulf Cup, was able to score 10 goals, and it came in the goal of the teams of Oman, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Bahrain. He was also crowned the top scorer in the eighth edition, which was held in 1986, after scoring 6 goals.
Also among the most prominent stars is the former Kuwaiti national team player, Jassem Yaqoub, the historic scorer of the tournament with 18 goals. He joined the Kuwait national team from 1972 to 1982, and was able to achieve many achievements with him, most notably winning the Gulf Cup title three times in 1972, 1974 and 1976, and he won the The title of top scorer in the tournament twice, in 1974 and 1976, with 6 goals and 9 goals, respectively, to become the historical top scorer after 3 participations in the tournament.
Mohammed Rabie, the former captain of the Omani national team, achieved a remarkable achievement after he crowned his country for the first time in the Arabian Gulf Cup “Khaleeji 19”, which was held in Muscat.
Also on the list is Ahmed Kano, the former captain of the Oman national team, who announced his retirement a few days ago, after 20 years in the stadiums, during which he played 180 international matches.
Also on the list is Zamil Al-Kuwari, the star of the Qatari national team, who participated in 5 editions of the Arabian Gulf Cup, in Gulf 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.
Among these stars is the Saudi player Ahmed Jamil, the owner of the famous header that qualified the Saudi national team to the 1994 World Cup for the first time in its history, the same year that Saudi Arabia crowned the Gulf 12 title.
Also among the stars is Kuwaiti Saad Al-Houti, who won 6 Gulf titles out of 10 crowned by the Kuwaiti national team, and he was also able to qualify with Kuwait for the World Cup in Spain in 1982.
Among the most prominent stars who participated in the Yemeni Arab Gulf Cup tournaments was Ali Al-Nono, the historical top scorer for the Yemeni national team, with 29 goals in 50 matches, during the period between 2000 and 2010.
The tournament will not forget the name of the late Iraqi Ahmed Radi, who was crowned the top scorer in the 1988 edition equally with our national team player Zuhair Bakhit with 4 goals each, which is the version in which his country was crowned alongside the 1979 and 1984 editions. 1988 was the best player in Asia, and the Federation of History and Statistics chose him among the ten best players in the history of Asia in the twentieth century.
