Fujairah, 26 July / WAM / The semi-final qualifiers for the Grand Somobot Championship in its first edition started yesterday evening, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, at the headquarters of the Fujairah Science Club, with the participation of 12 teams, in a competitive atmosphere witnessed in the first round. On three circuits equipped with the latest technology.
The tournament was inaugurated with a motivational speech for the participants in the tournament delivered by His Excellency Saif Al-Maaili, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fujairah Scientific Club, during which he referred to hard work, perseverance, honest competition, focus on programming the participating robots and adherence to the conditions and criteria to qualify for the qualifiers and then to the final round, in addition to applying Precautionary and preventive measures during competitions.
Al-Maaili stressed the importance of these competitions, which come within the club’s plan to enhance the concept of artificial intelligence for the children and youth of Fujairah to reach an advanced level in terms of spreading the culture of technology and programming science among future generations through initiatives, activities and programs that serve the aspirations of the state to empower young people in the advanced science sector and provide A suitable and attractive environment for creators and innovators.
Al-Maaili said that out of the club’s keenness to enhance the national identity in this tournament, the participating teams were named after the regions of the Emirate of Fujairah, such as Al-Hail team, Mershid team, Dibba and Murbah team.
He noted that the first day of the competition witnessed the qualification of four teams: Al-Hail, Masafi, Al-Tawain and Dibba. On the next day, the teams compete for the third and fourth places, and on the final day, the first and second places will be competed.
It is worth noting that sumobot is a sport in which two robots try to push each other out of the ring in a similar way to sumo. The robots used in this tournament are called sumobots and are programmed by the participants in the tournament.
