Emirates News Agency – The United Nations discusses support for people with autism

NEW YORK, 3rd April, WAM, The United Nations discussed at a conference titled “Transition… Towards an Inclusive World of Neurosciences” the possibility of further promoting the transformation of stereotypes about neurodiversity in order to overcome barriers and improve the lives of people with autism.

The conference discussed the contributions made by people with autism to society to achieve the goals of sustainable development.

In a message he sent on the occasion of International Autism Day, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, called for renewed determination to advance the inherent rights of people with autism and celebrate their contributions, noting that despite the important progress that has been made in this regard, people with autism still face social and environmental barriers to access. Their full exercise of their fundamental rights and freedoms, in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Antonio Guterres stressed the need to work to promote inclusive education, equal job opportunities, self-determination, and provide an environment in which every person is respected, praising the role of families, caregivers and support networks in the lives of people with autism.
