Emirates News Agency – US stocks give up their gains after the decision to raise interest rates

New York, March 22 / WAM / US stock indices fell on Wall Street in late trading, giving up all the gains achieved throughout the session, following the US Federal Reserve’s decision to raise interest rates.

The US Federal Reserve decided, in its meeting held today, to raise interest rates by 25 basis points to a range between 4.75 percent and 5 percent.

The “Standard & Poor’s 500” index decreased by 0.68 percent, or the equivalent of 26 points, to reach 3979.85 points, by 11:13 pm Emirates time.

The “Nasdaq” index, which was dominated by technology stocks, declined from its highest gains today, gaining regarding 47 points, or 0.4 percent, to reach 11819.13 points.

The Dow Jones industrial index fell by 0.72 percent, equivalent to 234 points, to reach the level of 32326.13 points.
