The United Arab Emirates has started work on the development of a lunar orbiting station developed by NASA, which should allow the participation of Emirati astronauts in future lunar missions.

The Emirates will provide an airlock for the planned Lunar Gateway station as part of a major international collaboration to advance space exploration.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center has started developing the project, said its director general, Salem Al Marri.

The airlock under development is a room for exiting and entering the space station, which is planned to be built by 2028.

“This week we began work on the Lunar Gateway space station following our leaders announced the UAE’s participation in the project,” Mr Al Marri said on X.
