Bombardier announced on Monday the launch of the Global 8000, a new aircraft that claims to be “the fastest aircraft in civil aviation since the Concorde”.

With a range of up to 8,000 nautical miles (about 14,800 km), the new aircraft can reach a top speed of Mach 0.94 (1,160 km/h), almost the speed of sound. (1235 km/h).

During tests in 2021, the plane had even slightly exceeded the speed of sound, reaching Mach 1.015.

“During this demonstration flight, the aircraft also became the first transport-category aircraft to reach supersonic speed using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF),” Bombardier said when introducing its new model on Monday.

In addition to its performance in flight, the aircraft promises increased comfort to its passengers, which incorporates the characteristics of the Global 7500 range.

“The Global 8000 aircraft benefits from the exceptional features of the Global 7500 aircraft, and is the flagship aircraft of a new era for our customers. We remain unmatched, which is extraordinary for a team focused on innovation like ours,” said Bombardier President and CEO Éric Martel.
