The Masters of Doom may not be falling from the sky yet, but they’re showing Nedonomos On their first album, they were pretty close. Making their debut alongside a variety of the scene’s biggest names, the locally renowned quartet brings a true dose of death-doom power, brutal extremes and a healthy sense of unsettling darkness. Not surprisingly, the chosen path will continue. “Endonomos II – Enlightenment” Plenty of room was left for the music to evolve, but there was never any attempt to reinvent the proverbial wheel.

The beginning of “Reversal” is solemn, intense and powerful. In a short space of time, Endonomos weaves a dense carpet of sound, allowing beautiful melodies to emerge and combining plaintive, searching vocals with angry roars. The obligatory death-apocalypse element only appears late in the game and immediately takes over – a vast, brutal but always subtle experience with a funereal apocalypse feel. In “Atheon Anarkhon”, there is a hint of noble restraint at the beginning, but as the performance progresses, this feeling is undermined by raw dissonance in slow motion. True to genre standards, Nedonomos quickly builds their barren walls before the finale takes on an almost divine dimension.

Ahab’s winning over of Daniel Droste for “Hostiles” is definitely worth mentioning – a clear case of seek and find. Even before one of the voices begins, that very special atmosphere is evident, a sense of melodic mystery that has something enjoyable about it but also keeps getting closer to total collapse. A loud song in the eye of the storm cuts through your bones. The magic of music can be found even in deliberately reduced, minimalist insertions. It’s hard to imagine what a full joint album from the two bands would sound like, since the song itself is already a masterpiece.

Even if not every song reaches such an incredible high level, the second Endonomos album is still fantastic, seamlessly succeeding the previous one and making its own identity even clearer. Enlightenment succeeds, as Endonomos II – Enlightenment manages to gain more momentum and burn itself out, especially in the more classic Doom levels. Of course, the mystery between death and funeral doom cannot be missed, but the sparse but at the same time bright musical approach is effective. Endonomos balances itself deftly in a form that makes us assume and hope for great things.
