Energy prices: PTB president Raoul Hedebouw points to “war profiteers”

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has accentuated soaring energy prices and this energy crisis is likely to last, according to experts. For the president of the PTB, guest of the morning of the Premiere this Wednesday, the agreement reached within Vivaldi to reduce the taxpayers’ bill is insufficient.

“The PTB has asked for the maximum price of petrol and diesel to be fixed at €1.4 because that is the maximum we know how to pay. We must stop believing that with indirect taxation, we will make the rich pay… I see that we have reduced the VAT from 21 to 6% on gas, just for the summer months, which are the months when people fill up their heated swimming pool whereas the winter months when everyone consumes a lot, VAT will be at 21%. That’s Vivaldi’s mistake”, analysis Raoul Hedebouw.
