English model Jodie Kidd electrocuted with 1 million volts for Kia EV9 launch

Sitting on a raised platform and shielded from a “lightning machine” only by a chainmail Faraday suit to conduct electricity around her, Jodie was able to control electricity with her fingertips and fire lightning from her hands.

The ‘lightning’ photograph was then combined with shots of a futuristic-looking Jodie for the launch of Kia’s new six- or seven-seater EV9.

The EV9 features super-fast charging, a range of over 300 miles on a single charge, and vehicle-to-load technology that allows it to power almost anything with a three-prong plug.

The announcement comes as a new study, commissioned by Kia, reveals that more than 26% of parents have been encouraged to buy an electric vehicle by their children (like Kidd, you know? There’s no coincidence there).

More than a third of them (36%) attribute this motivation to learning about environmental issues at school, and 35% say their children want an electric vehicle because it’s cool. A third of them (33%) believe they have been influenced by their favorite TV shows and YouTubers.

The study of 2,000 adults found that 87% of parents surveyed considered the possibility of buying a vehicle as a result of these conversations.

As for the motorists surveyed, 40% of them plan to acquire a more durable vehicle.

Environmental reasons (46%) are most often behind this decision, and 29% are considering doing so due to the new law banning the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in 2030.

On average, it is in 2026 that most drivers think of buying an electric car.

Kia’s new EV9 SUV offers up to seven seats in a three-row format, with ample cabin and luggage space.

Like many electric car manufacturers, Kia emphasizes sustainability.

The EV9’s cabin is leather-free and many elements are made from recycled PET plastic, including fishing nets and plastic bottles.

Jodie Kidd said of her ‘electrocution’: “Being electrocuted was one of the hardest things to go through: “The electrocution was one of the most terrifying things I’ve ever done, but also an amazing experience. Few people can say that they received a million volts in their body and that they were able to throw lightning with their fingers!

“As a parent, I know exactly how important the environment is for the next generation. I had many conversations with my son Indio about what we can do to live more sustainably, including buying an electric car.

“The purpose of this stunt was to celebrate electricity and show that the future of motoring is electric, on the occasion of the launch of Kia’s new all-electric car, the EV9. With a range of over 300 miles, super-fast charging, and the ability to power anything with a three-prong plug, it’s perfect for family adventures. You can even use it to boil a kettle and stop for a nice cup of tea!

The EV9 is Kia’s new flagship electric vehicle and one of 15 fully electric models the brand will launch worldwide by 2027.
