Flemish Minister of Internal Affairs Bart Somers (Open VLD) placed Knokke-Heist under increased surveillance following an audit of his administration carried out by Audit Flanders.
The report was sent to the municipality on September 15. The latter has already indicated that it will not communicate any element of its content until it has been submitted to the municipal council.
Concretely, reinforced surveillance implies that the municipal administration will be closely monitored by the governor. Regular monitoring meetings will also be organized between the governor and the municipality to verify that the audit recommendations are being followed.
