Dubai: Dubai has introduced new measures to enhance security and ensure better service at ports and airports. The smart gate service started at airports will be extended to seaports as well. Dubai Immigration officials stated that the measures including the expansion of the Smart Gate system will benefit both national security and travelers.

The GDRFA officials made this known in a press conference called to inform regarding the international conference on security and service at border posts. Currently, 37 percent of passengers arriving at Dubai International Airport are using the smart gate system.

This will soon be increased to 80 percent. According to senior officials of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, the biometric system will also be introduced at ports and road borders. A global conference will be held in Dubai on 19th and 20th of this month to discuss future policies on border security.

Experts from America, Europe and Asia will participate in the conference. In the first half of this year, more than 4.2 million passengers traveled through Dubai Airport, according to the Department of Immigration and Residency. In the press conference, GDRFA-Dubai Assistant Director Major General Obaid Muhair Bin Surur, Major General Talal Ahmed Al Sankiti, Major General Dr. Ali Al Zabi, Brigadier Khalaf Al Ghaith and others participated.
