Kollam: Body worn camera surveillance has been started in Kollam city to catch crimes. Cameras attached to the uniforms of police officers on duty will monitor everyone. Crime scenes captured by cameras can become digital evidence that can be presented in court.
Cameras will be attached to the uniforms of police officers on duty at various points in the city. Police officers ‘wearing’ cameras will be present in busy places like schools, colleges, bus stands and important centers in the morning and evening.
Harassment, extortion, assault on women, theft etc. will also be recorded on camera. If girls are harassed in front of colleges, schools, nearby areas and bus stops, it will be shown on the cameras of the police officers on duty in Mufti.
ACP A. Abhilash said that if smoking in public places, violations of law etc. are caught on camera, petty crimes will be filed. Body worn cameras are allowed only to the city police in the district. There are 25 cameras in total. Out of this, City Police Control Room-14, Traffic Police-6, Kollam East, West, Iravipuram Police Stations-one each, Chatannoor and Karunagappally sub-divisions have been given one.
