Kristina Peshkova from the Czech Republic was crowned Miss World 2024, beating 111 of her colleagues from all over the world, in Mumbai, India, where the international competition was held this year.

Peshkova’s victory came over the three runners-up – Yasmina Zaytoun from Lebanon, Achi Abrahams from Trinidad and Tobago, and Lesego Chombo from Botswana. (These women, along with Jessica Gagne of England, are considered the “continental winners” of the competition), according to CNN.

Peshkova became the second Miss World from the Czech Republic after the winner of the Miss 2006 contest.

Miss World is considered to be the oldest international beauty pageant, having been first established in the United Kingdom in 1951.

Perhaps the two most famous winners are from India: actresses Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Miss World 1994) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Miss World 2000).

Chopra Jonas appeared at the pageant in a video message, where she praised both Miss World owner Julia Morley and Nita Ambani, the winner of the pageant’s humanitarian award.

Peškova replaces the outgoing Miss World, Karolina Bilawska, from Poland, whose win dates back to March 2022 (due to scheduling issues, the Miss World competition will not be held in 2023).
