The Tunisian authorities closed the headquarters of the “Ennahda Movement” in the capital, Tunis, and all other governorates yesterday, the day after the arrest of its leader, the dissolved Parliament Speaker, Rashid Ghannouchi, against the backdrop of statements in which he warned of a civil war.
Three of Ghannouchi’s aides were also arrested, while sources in “Ennahda” talked about the ban scenario, as they expected that “official decisions will be issued against the movement to ban all its political activities and classify it as terrorist organizations.”
The Tunisian Public Prosecution decided to keep Ghannouchi under arrest, and the Ministry of Interior attributed the reasons for this to the existence of an arrest warrant issued against him by the Public Prosecution Office of the Judicial Center for Combating Terrorism. And it reported that a security squad raided Ghannouchi’s house at night, searched it and seized all evidence of the investigation, with the permission of the Public Prosecution.
