Ensuring the Safety of First Responders in Brussels: SLFP’s Concerns and Demands

2023-10-22 18:02:00

Last night, an emergency ambulance was stolen in Laeken but the vehicle was found shortly followingwards. A little later, SIAMU paramedics were attacked in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode.

Faced with these incidents, the SLFP asks the authorities what they “expect” to ensure the protection of first responders within the Brussels-Capital Region. “A death in our ranks?” he asks himself. The union is also concerned regarding the system that will be put in place to protect agents during the end-of-year holidays.

“Every day, it is fear in the stomach that dozens of staff members have to leave the Yser metro station or the Gare du Nord to go to work,” explains the SLFP. “We see that the priorities are elsewhere and that the protection of workers, who carry out a job of helping and providing relief to the population, comes second.”

The strike notice will come into force upon receipt by the Brussels government and will be accompanied by a “much more extensive” list of demands. The union is demanding in particular the withdrawal of skills linked to SIAMU from Secretary of State Ans Persoons.
