Tight box

In the end, Lewis Hamilton was 2.2 seconds behind Max Verstappen and a late second stop from hard to medium could have tipped the scales in this direction.

Lando Norris secured third place in Austin and there too we might have to talk about the pit stop, but then again McLaren had little choice due to the lack of fresh medium tires.

It is still very strong that Lance Stroll could collect points for Aston Martin, who started from the pits and Charles Leclerc actually tried the one-stop race, but had to give up a lot and ended up only sixth.

The complete race report from my colleague Ruben Zimmermann can be found here.

Hammertime?

6 laps left and Lewis Hamilton has passed Lando Norris in second place and wants to catch up with Max Verstappen.

Can he handle it?

10:12 p.m

Not a one-stop race

That’s it for the one-stop race options, both Hamilton and Russell have pitted.

Verstappen leads ahead of Norris and Leclerc, Hamilton is pushing forward from fourth place.

Crazy exciting

Who will win in Austin today? The winners’ podium is still completely open.

Currently it seems to be between Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton will probably try to drive through with a stop, Norris has been put on new hard tires and Verstappen now has them too.

This will be really exciting!

One stop at Hamilton?

Is Mercedes trying a bold one-stop strategy with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell?

Hamilton is nervous on the radio, Russell is pretty confident. Will this plan work?

Piastri out and tough duel

In round 11 it’s over for Oscar Piastri. The Australian had to park his McLaren due to a water leak, perhaps an aftereffect of contact with Esteban Ocon on lap 1.

Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen had a close duel at Turn 12, Verstappen pushed Leclerc very far out, but no investigation yet.

Norris leads ahead of Hamilton and Verstappen.

9:16 p.m

Lando drives away

What a strong start from Lando Norris, who had already passed Charles Leclerc before the first corner and now has a bit of breathing space behind him.

Lewis Hamilton is now chasing Norris, who just overtook Charles Leclerc for second place on lap 6.

Esteban Ocon had to park his Alpine after contact with Oscar Piastri; the damage to Ocon’s car was too great.

How quickly can Hamilton get to Norris now?

9:00 p.m

Almost all on Medium

Yesterday Carlos Sainz told us about several strategies, today it all looks pretty uniform.

Everyone except Nico Hülkenberg and Lance Stroll (both from the box) start on medium.

Well then, let’s see what it is.
